Pedro Alejandro Sarmiento Rodríguez (born 1977)
Colombian composer

He studied with the master Blas E. Atehortúa at the National University of Colombia (Universidad Nacional de Colombia), where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in the year 2000. Since then, he has dedicated himself to music composition for band and symphony orchestra, string orchestra, chamber music and instrumental soloists.

He has participated in different music events in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela and his musical compositions have been interpreted in countries such as Germany, Austria, Brazil, Colombia, Spain and Venezuela.

About my work

On an early stage, my musical work was centered on the exploration of diverse composition techniques linked together with the exploration of harmony of fourths and their relationship with the modal language, while maintaining the use of classic forms. I also explored the polytonality and polymodality of different works.

Later on, I widened my work into the harmony by seconds, the not dodecaphonic serial work and an enrichment of the musical texture, giving some priority to the timbre experimentation and the study of the rhythmic modes and their structural complexity.
